Gregg Anderson School will open in the fall of 2012 providing specialized curriculum in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). As Gregg Anderson School is a “school of choice,” all students in the district were eligible to apply for an intra-district transfer, regardless of where they live. Westside utilized a computer database to sort applicants by their current school, randomize them and select names accordingly. Preference was given to the siblings of accepted students in an effort to keep families in the same school. Gregg Anderson School will have an initial student population of 800, including mainstream students and those with severe special needs. Early this fall, the District appointed Shelly Dearinger, former principal of Sundown Elementary, as principal of Gregg Anderson School. The school is located at the corner of Rancho Vista Blvd and Avenue N-8.
VALENCIA - The Los Angeles County Farm Bureau (LACFB) is concerned that in 2013 under the health care reform and expiration of the Bush tax cuts that taxes on many taxpayers may rise dramatically.
For instance, the top tax rate on ordinary income may rise almost 25 percent, the top tax rate on capital gains may rise almost 60 percent, the top tax rate on dividends may increase almost 300 percent, and the estate tax rate may increase over 55 percent. The Estate Tax Exemption may fall from $5 million to $1 million.
As a result, the LACFB asked their financial advisors to suggest options to deal with these crises and also offer this seminar free to the public as a community service since so many taxpayers will be affected. Presenters will define the problem, suggest alternatives, and then provide a one-on-one question-and-answer period. The presenters will come from as far away as the Bay-Area, Oregon and Ohio.
The seminar will be held in the Hyatt Regency Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency Valencia, 24500 Town Center Drive, Valencia, on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 5 p.m.. Refreshments will be furnished.
