Slover chided his fellow Realtors for installing him on this inauspicious day and further jested with the audience that 2012 was a ‘Leap’ year and the year when the Mayan calendar ends. He went on to acknowledge that despite the multi-year impacts of this latest recession, challenges bring change and opportunity. In this spirit of optimism, Slover accepted the gavel presented to him.
Prior to becoming a Realtor, Slover spent six years in the Navy, including deployments on a Navy class destroyer in the Pacific. Subsequent to his military service, he went into the aerospace industry, working for a number of companies. He spent 13 years on the Northrop Grumman B-2 bomber project as a flight test technician before entering Real Estate, full time, in 1999.
“You were always vulnerable to layoffs in aerospace and I thought this seemed a good time to transition into a field in which I held a great interest,” Slover said.
From his roots in Long Beach, growing up in a family of nine kids, Slover learned the lessons of balancing diverse interests from an early age.
As President of GAVAR, Slover said he wants to focus on building better communication between the association’s membership and its governing board. Precisely because membership in the organization is large, Slover indicated his desire to create forums for improved communication between membership and the board.
“One lesson that we should surely extract from this last recession is that efficiency will become a byword in all we do. I want to give our members the tools they need to serve their clients in this new Real Estate paradigm,” Slover said.
During his career, Slover has won many awards from Century 21 for achieving various sales goals. He was GAVAR’s 2009 ‘Realtor of the Year’ and has served on the Board of Directors since 2006.
Slover married his wife Victoria in 2007 and credits her with balance and focus in his career and his ascension to the presidency of GAVAR.
