JetHawks Holiday Caravan Delivers Cheer, Food To Needy
AV News sports report
LANCASTER –The Lancaster JetHawks Annual Holiday Caravan made its way around the Antelope Valley Thursday. The team’s mascot KaBoom and the JetHawks front office staff scheduled five stops throughout the AV to spread cheer and give out gifts and food to help those in need this holiday season.

The Holiday Caravan visited the Antelope Vally Hospital’s Pediatrics Ward. KB and staff personally presented gifts to children who may be spending the holidays away from home. Gifts, which included action figures, stuffed animals, Barbie’s and DVDs just to name a few, were donated by the Lancaster JetHawks Booster Club and front office staff.

Raymond Cardona was the first to see KaBoom and Santa walk into his hospital room. Among his gifts was a favorite items – a basketball.

Just down the hall young Jaun Carlos happily accepted hot wheels and a soccer ball. A third child, a young girl was sleeping and Santa and KaBoom quietly left toys for her before leaving.

Then the caravan headed to Dr. Weber DDS office where KB spent time with kids teaching them the importance of good dental hygiene.

The third stop was at the Child Care Resource Center. KB joined the staff in arts arts and crafts  project with the kids and then settled down for story time. The JetHawks and CCRC teamed up to raise money for books at this year’s Laps 4 Literacy event held at Clear Channel Stadium in October and have since been collecting toys. Each child in attendance received a free book and toy from CCRC.

The JetHawks staff and KB also visited Grace Resource Center to help distribute food to families in need this holiday season. JetHawks fans are encouraged to come out and help KB and staff work hard to help provide for those less fortunate in the Antelope Valley.

Finally,  the Caravan set up camp at Desert Christian School to hand out candy canes to students and get them excited about next seasons scholastic incentives at the Hangar, including the JetHawks Reading Challenge.

“The Holiday Caravan is a great way to spread cheer throughout the AV during the Holidays,” said JetHawks Director of Community Relations Will Murphy.

“For years the JetHawks staff has teamed up with the JetHawks Booster Club to bring gifts to kids who may be spending the holidays in the hospital, as well as distributing food to families in need at the Grace Resource Center. CCRC has been a great addition to the caravan the past few years and it’s definitely time for KB to get a checkup at DR. Webers,” Murphy said.

“These organizations have been improving the lives of children in the AV for years and we believe that’s especially important this time of year,” Murphy added.
